African Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus Summit in Kumasi, Ghana, 14th-15th July 2026
Submission deadline: 8th May 2026.
We cordially invite researchers, scholars and professionals to submit original, unpublished work for oral and poster presentations at the Summit event entitled: ‘African WEFE Nexus Summit: Harnessing Resources for Sustainable Climate-Smart Water-Secure Development’, which will be held in Kumasi, Ghana, KNUST Campus, on 13th-16th July 2026. The event is co-organised by TUM in Germany and TCC-CIMET at KNUST with the support of our International Partners. Detailed guidelines and submission portal are presented below.
Background
The African WEFE Nexus Summit is part of and implemented under the TRANS-SAHARA project. Coordinated by Technische Universität München (TUM) and funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme, the TRANS-SAHARA project aims to advance agroforestry management in the Greater Northern African Region through a Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus-based approach. As a key partner, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), through TCC-CIMET, will host the African WEFE Nexus Summit. As a leading institution with demonstrated expertise in sustainable technologies, innovation ecosystems, and climate-smart development, the TCC-CIMET, is uniquely positioned to anchor this high-impact continental dialogue.
The Summit aims to bring together key stakeholders from academia, government, development agencies, private-sector actors, and community organizations to advance integrated Water–Energy–Food–Environment (WEFE) Nexus solutions across Africa. The TRANS-SAHARA Project Coordination Office will work closely with the TCC-CIMET team to co-develop the agenda, mobilise international partners, coordinate logistics, and secure additional support from sponsoring bodies.
The Specific objectives of the Summit are:
1. Sharing Knowledge, Best Practices and Lessons Learned on climate-smart water solutions through facilitating interdisciplinary knowledge exchange on WEFE Nexus innovations; and discussing challenges and opportunities for improvement.
2. Showcasing African-led climate-smart water technology and WEFE research outputs, frugal innovations, and circular-economy practices through exhibitions, posters and presentations.
3. Strengthening institutional partnerships for climate-smart water resilience and water secure development through dialoguing with development partners, governments and industry players to support Sustainability Strategies and model WEFE infrastructure development for training the next generation of skilled workers and farmers for sustainable development.
4. Creating WEFE Nexus Impact Hub Platform for stimulating climate-smart water innovations through student and researcher mobility, South–South cooperation, and WEFE capacity building.
5.Communicating actionable WEFE nexus policy recommendations on climate-smart water innovations for national and regional adoption.

Deadline for abstract submission by authors: 8th May 2026.
Review of abstracts completed by 15th May 2026.
Feedback on accepted abstract sent to authors by 15th May 2026.
Deadline for Online Registration to attend the summit by 29th May 2026.
